Patient Care

Diabetes Clinic

The Diabetes Clinic, established in 1992, specializes in the multiple disciplinary care of diabetic patients and gives special attention to the complications of diabetes. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for excellence in education. The clinic works with other sub-specialists in ophthalmology, vascular surgery, nephrology, podiatry, and others to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient management for all the complications of diabetes. The clinic staff includes two podiatrists in the clinic specializing in diabetes foot care and two diabetes educators and dietitians. The clinic offers weekly diabetes education classes for patients; all physicians may refer patients directly to the class. A behavioral psychologist and an exercise physiologist participate in the classes.

Referrals: Patients with diagnostic or management problems in endocrinology are welcome by referral. Referring physicians should send current records, X-rays, blood work-up, etc., prior to the patients' appointments. Direct all referrals to the Office of Referrals and Appointments (501-686-8000).
